World's oldest dog dies at 21 - or 147 - oddstuff | Stuff.co.nz

Pretty respectable age for a dog!! Mine are 10 and 11 now, and still playful, but showing signs of increasing age. Have seen plenty of cats last this long, but not many dogs.
How old have you known a dog to live?
RIP Chanel .

A wire-haired dachshund that held the record as the world's oldest dog has died on Long Island at age 21 – or 147 in dog years.

  1. Fascinating. I would have thought there would be older dogs. I know of cats that have lived into their mid-to-late 20's, and I just assumed there were also dogs that old.

  2. This isn't the World's Oldest Dog! I know a 22 yr old terrier that died last year and have known several others over 26!

  3. Media love a story - and those are great ages for dogs - quite common for cats, but much less common to keep a dog that long. Some of the smaller breeds can carry on longer but the larger breeds of dogs rarely do...
