A tribute to the 29 miners that lost their lives in Greymouth

Thoughts with the entire community of Greymouth. The greatest loss of life in this country since the Mt Erebus plane crash thirty years ago.
The flags will fly at half mast today and the country will remember them.
Also thinking of those from overseas who lost loved ones in the mine as many are from other parts of the world.

  1. So heartbreaking. I was just looking at the names - Dunbar,Campbell,Sims,Duggan,Mackie and all the others. There are still invisible ties that bind.

  2. This is going to make me cry, isn't it? Mining doesn't seem to be much safer now than it was one hundred years ago. It's a tragedy. I'm so grateful my grandfather was able to break away from my family's long history of working in the mines. Otherwise, who knows where I would be right now.

    Thank you for sharing this.
