Nelson - A freak of geography and I love it

Flew out of Christchurch yesterday in freezing weather with a southerly polar blast sweeping the country. I hear there was sleet and a miserable night there. Even Wellington was getting snow on the hills...
Flights have been delayed and roads closed as a wintry blast starts to move over the south of the country.
The cold snap was set to move up both islands over the week, bringing chilly temperatures as far north as Kaitaia.
It had already brought significant snowfall to parts of the South Island, closing several roads.
Arrived to warm sun in Nelson and it is here again today.  Cold in the shade  but a beautiful day.
Some geographical freak of nature is protecting them from all this bad weather....

We had breakfast in the sun on the deck...

Seafood lunch with Libby at Mapua Wharf

Lots of shopping in Mapua and Motueka then home through beautiful scenery at high tide...

The mountains are beautiful with snow capped tips.

So far so good - but will it last!

Missing Poppy and Jess and the boys but loving the break

  1. That deck looks very inviting for breakfast in the sun!

  2. Thank you Meike, Angus and GB.... Onto day five of the sun here. Fabulous winter break. Sorry your Lewis weather so bad GB! I know Angus is geeking the heat in France . Guess Meike is feeling the heat in Europe too!

Comments welcome....always love to hear what you think!
